Topic: SCADA Implementation, Louisville Downtown Grid Network
Speaker: Jason Tipton, LG&E SCADA Project Manager
Abstract:
The Louisville downtown electrical grid network is approximately 1 square mile. Within this square mile are nearly 200 electric vaults, most of which are below the sidewalks. Contained in all these vaults are over 400 medium voltage transformers, with accompanying intelligent equipment that keeps LG&E customers safe and protects LG&E and customer equipment.
Until the SCADA project was implemented, LG&E had no way of monitoring equipment. Now we can verify that all equipment is working properly, and that the load on the
equipment and the physical environment of the electric vault. This presentation will review the SCADA architecture and usage of the system.
